Speed control is the most important part of putting

Lets face it, if you could manage to get that first putt much closer to the hole, you would get rid of the dreaded three putt. This would probably save 5 to 6 strokes per round! Here’s a simple drill to develop speed control.

First, find a flat area on the putting green. Insert a tee in the ground, now take 3 steps (approx. 10 feet) and put another tee in the ground. Do this again and put another tee in the ground, and again one more time. You should have 4 tees in the ground all at approx. 10 foot intervals. Now start at the first tee and putt a few balls to the second tee (10 feet). Start over again and putt to the third tee. (20 feet). Start over again and putt to the fourth tee (30 feet). Soon you will get the feel of distance control that will be useful to eliminate the three putts from your game.

You are now on your way to becoming a great two-putter.
